about

A quartet for Baldur, Hel, Odin and Loki. This too is set after Baldur's death, so the speakers are separated: Loki in his prison, Baldur and Hel in the underworld, and Odin on his lonely throne. Baldur and Hel voice the questions they wish they could ask their absent fathers, and their frustration that no help or answer comes, while Odin and Loki ignore their children and revisit their grievances and accusations of betrayal, obsessed with each other to the exclusion of the larger world.

This is by far the most complex piece in the set, as four different lines of lyrics intertwine and play off each other. Listening to it several times will uncover new details and juxtapositions.
