about

The Norse Creation Myth, narrated by Snorri Sturlson, the real historical Icelandic scholar responsible for preserving much of what we know about Norse myth, and the Seeress, an ancient giantess who is the speaker in an anonymous poem called the "Voluspa" which is part of the Poetic Edda, and preserves most of what we know about the Viking version of creation.

As the two describe the origins of the Nine Worlds, the birth of giants and gods, the creation of the present age, and prophecies of its destruction, they quarrel, disagreeing about details (as the real medieval texts disagree), and indulge in competitions, showing off by reciting lists of memorized names and facts, just as historical bards competed in the Viking age.

This song is closely based on the Prose and Poetic Eddas, our most important Medieval sources for Viking myth and culture.
